Funerals and Memorials

Funerals and Memorials

Dying is a subject that we tend to avoid until we are forced to confront a situation where a loved one has passed and suddenly decisions have to be made.  As your Celebrant in these circumstances, I meet with you to listen, and to learn about your loved one.  I then liaise with the Funeral Director and create a specially designed Funeral Ceremony that reflects the spirit of the departed.

The Eulogy is often written by a family member or dear friend and can either be read by that person or by me on their behalf.  Alternatively if you prefer, I will write the Eulogy from information given to me by family members.  I also conduct the Funeral Ceremony.

It’s true that most of us live ordinary lives, however we all have dreams, we succeed and we fail, and we touch others hearts along the way.  It is the unique experiences we have and often the idiosyncrasies that delight and frustrate others that make us what we are.  Hence, humour can be a welcome release for all concerned during a Funeral Ceremony.

A Funeral Ceremony is also a very important part of the grieving process for family and friends and there are lots of ways during the Ceremony to honour the life of the deceased.  Whether it’s the choice of music and songs or hymns, poems and readings or what’s spoken about in the Eulogy, each Ceremony is a very personal account of a life that had great meaning to those left behind.  It’s important to remember that although a Funeral Ceremony conducted by a Celebrant is not a religious service per se, it can certainly be a very spiritual experience and a deep, meaningful and loving remembrance for those who are there.
